PARA vs. POR

As with SER vs. ESTAR, PARA and POR might become more subtle and sophisticated with your degree of expertise in SPANISH. Yet, here is a very concise and useful explanation of them for your convenience…

PARA= DESTINO

POR= ORÍGEN GENERADOR

===================

Did you KNOW that when you DECLARE A DESTINATION, PARA , is the preposition to use?

For instance: a)..La sopa es PARA tí (The soup is for you): “You” is a DESTINATION. A destination requires PARA ;)

b)..Voy PARA mi casa (I’m going to my house): A destination requires PARA.

===================

P O R shows ORíGEN GENERADOR (who made it?);

For instance: a)…La sopa está hecha por Gloria (both: origen OR generation -Soup was made by Gloria… (the person who created the soup, originated it ;)

b)…El libro fué escrito POR García Márquez...The book was written BY García Márquez (García Márquez originated the book…)
